The Goalie

On December 9th, 2018, Edmonton Script Salon recorded its first live podcast from Holy Trinity Anglican Church.  Edmonton Script Salon runs every second Sunday of the month, reading a new play by an Alberta playwright. In five years, almost half of the featured plays have gone on to full productions.

The play, read in two parts, is The Goalie, a comedy by Carolyn Ziegler. It’s 1937 and Albert “Al” Einstein has one thing on his mind when he shows up in small town Saskatchewan—playing hockey for the Canwood Canucks!

The Goalie by Carolyn Ziegler is read by Jayce Mckenzie as Rose, Ethan Snowden as Jep, Vince Forcier as the voices of James and Eddie, and Ian Leung as Albert Einstein. Tracy Carroll provided dramaturgy, directed the reading with assistance from Carmen Niewenhuis, and supplied the voice of Lavender.

Sound effects are by Colin Matty and the sound engineer is Mike Tulley. Music is by permission or under creative commons licence. Podcast producer and post production editing is by Elaine Elrod. Sponsors of this reading series are Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Alberta Playwrights’ Network and the Playwrights Guild of Canada and our loyal audience. Podcast support for this program is by Pathways to PGC.

Edmonton Script Salon is co-produced by Katherine Koller and Tracy Carroll. If you’d like to subscribe to our podcasts, send an email with “subscribe” in the subject line to edmontonscriptsalon@gmail.com. You can also like our page, Script Salon, on Facebook!
