Matthew Heiti

Born in Sudbury, Matthew holds a BFA in Acting from Ryerson University and an MA in Creative Writing from the University of New Brunswick. He is an award-winning playwright, a Genie-nominated screenwriter, and his first novel, The City Still Breathing, is published by Coach House Books. His play about teen mental health, Black Dog: 4 vs the wrld is published by Playwrights Canada Press.

His plays have been workshopped across the country and produced at various festivals including SummerWorks (The Nick Drake Project), Lunchbox Theatre (Aviatrix), Sudbury Theatre Centre (Mucking in the Drift), and Crestfallen (Plague). At STC, Matthew created and ran the Playwrights’ Junction, a workshop for developing writers, for 5 years. He currently serves as Playwright-in-residence with Pat the Dog Theatre Creation, with whom he coordinates PlaySmelter, a festival of new play readings from Northern Ontario writers He creates new work in strange places with Crestfallen.

In his spare time, he is usually working.
