Mansel was shortlisted for the prestigious 2011 Siminovitch Prize in playwriting. His work has been produced by Theatre Network, Northern Light Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects, Great Canadian Theatre Company, Blyth Theatre, Theatre de Nouvel-Ontario and Persephone Theatre, among others. Three of his plays have been translated into French by Governor General's Award winner Jean Marc Dalpe: Ghost Trains, Spitting Slag, and most recently, Two Rooms, which premiered in 2012. Recent unproduced work includes The Library of Murder, Muskeg & Money and Lunch for the Executioner. He has been writer in Residence at the Berton House in Dawson City, Northern Light Theatre, the University of Windsor, the Regina Public Library and the Surrey Public Library. A long-time Saskatoon resident, he now lives in a small cabin outside Chapleau, in Northern Ontario.
