Maja Ardal

Maja Ardal  received a Dora Award (2009) for performance of her play You Fancy Yourself. It was shown at the Edinburgh Fringe, Theatre Passe Muraille,  and across Canada. Her solo play The Cure for Everything was nominated for a Dora Ward (2011)  Premiered at Theatre Passe Miralle,  and performed  in various Canadian communities, as well as Los Angeles for the CITF. Her play HER2-for a cast of 10 women- was produced by Nightwood Theatre in january 2015. Her first play Midnight Sun was prodced by Tarragon Theatre and the National Arts Centre and Iceland (2001). All 4 of the above plays are published by Playwrights Canada Press. She was born in Siglufjordur in the north of Iceland.  She received her education in Scotland. She came to Canada in 1970 and acted with Toronto Workshop Productions in 10 plays. She regards George Luscombe as her first mentor. Maja was Artistic Director of Young People's Theatre from 1990 to 1998. Maja wrote the book for the musical Joy with composer Joey Miller. It was produced at the Workman Theatre in October 2000. Her latest play The HERO of Hunter Street will be produced by 4th Line Theatre in 2016. Maja is also an actor, director, producer and theatre trainer. She has taught playwrighting at Humber College and for various  theatres and communities for 15 years.
