Gyllian Raby

Gyllian creates theatre as a writer, and also collaborates with other writers as a dramaturg and director. Emigrating to Alberta in 1979 she co-founded the writer-performer group One Yellow Rabbit Theatre, where she was Artistic Director until 1986. In 1988 Gyllian quit freelancing to be Artistic Director of Edmonton's Northern Light Theatre, where she continued to write and produce new works that explored ideas through performance idiom and the marriage of theatre media with video, ballet and music. She has had 10 plays produced, has taught at the Universities of Winnipeg, Calgary, Dalhousie, Cincinnati and Xavier. In 1998 she took her children to Ohio pursuing work, but comes home as often as possible to freelance at the Shaw Festival and George Brown Theatre school.
