Estate of David Widdicombe

David Widdicombe is a playwright, screenwriter, director and filmmaker whose plays have been produced across Canada and internationally. His play SCIENCE FICTION was called "One of the year's two best new plays" by the National Post. It was nominated for four Dora Awards including Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Production, and won the Aurora Award, Canada's highest honour in Science Fiction & Fantasy Writing. David's other plays include THE RIVER LADY, DINOSAUR DREAMS, SWAMP BABY & OTHER TALES, and WAKE, which was a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2000. David has been playwright-in-residence at Toronto's Factory Theatre and in 1995 playwright George F. Walker and the Arts Foundation of Toronto awarded him the Toronto Arts Protege Award for Drama. In 2006 David wrote and directed the dark comedy SANTA BABY, which won Best Film at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and Best Screenplay at the Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto. The film was an official selection of over thirty film festivals around the world and was broadcast on CBC Television in 2011. David has also written ten plays for the CBC, and is a graduate of the Canadian Film Centre. A collection of David's plays entitled THE RIVER LADY & OTHER PLAYS was published in 2000.

David Widdicombe passed away in July 2017.
