Ellen Close

Ellen is an actor, playwright and producer based in Calgary. With Braden Griffiths, she wrote My Family and Other Endangered Species, an adaptation of Carla Gunn's novel Amphibian, which premiered in spring, 2014 at Downstage and received the Calgary Critics' Award for Best Play and a Betty Mitchell nomination for Outstanding New Play. The production had a second run at Vertigo's YStage in 2016 and was published by Playwrights' Canada Press. As a member of the Downstage Creation Ensemble, she has co-created and performed in Bus(t), In the Wake (Downstage) and Good Fences (ATP's playRites in association with Downstage), all nominated for Outstanding New Play at the Betty Mitchell Awards with In the Wake receiving the award in 2010. Her play Life Below was workshopped at Lunchbox Theatre's Stage One Festival.
