David Owen

David Owen holds a Phd in Theatre Studies from York University in Toronto and has both an MFA in Directing from the University of Calgary and an MA in Dramatic Theory and Criticism from the University of Alberta. He is a playwright, director, actor and sound-designer. In addition to his membership with the Playwright's Guild of Canada (PGC), he is also a member of CATR (Canadian Association of Theatre Research) and the PCAC (Popular Culture Association of Canada). He is best known for his plays Excess Unwanted Growth, Hang-Gliding Over The Abyss, No Entry, Imaginary Friends and his contributions to the NextFest shorts. Some of the shows he has directed are All in the Timing (Serious Theatre), Don Juan in Chicago (University of Calgary), Play (University of Calgary), Lysistrata (Attic Theatre), Lawrence and Holloman (Image Theatre), Doctor Faustus (University of Lethbridge), The Importance of Being Ernest and Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) (Red Deer College), The Birthday Party and Doctor Faustus at the Walterdale Theatre and the Canadian premiere of My Head Was A Sledgehammer for Manual Transmission Theatre.
