Synopsis:

The town of Brody has a dark secret.  Many say the mill around which it was founded is haunted.  Some say it is the site of a series of ghastly murders.  Others whisper of an ancient burial ground that lies beneath the floorboards.  "The Mill" is a story told over four plays by four different playwrights.

"Ash" picks up the story from Part Three and catapults us forward.  Something has happened - a cataclysm.  But the Mill is still standing, battered, and surrounded by ash.  Inside, five young people are clinging to life, unable to go outside for very long, and surviving on a meager fresh water stream that runs under the Mill floor.  Father is gone, and who knows when he is coming back?  And there is someone else there too, in the shadows - a child of rape - inexpressibly old, but frozen in youth.  Lyca continues to haunt the Mill, and she is hungry again.  The cycle of terror has been renewing itself for hundreds of years.  Will the last survivors destroy each other?  Can any hope take root in such poisoned ground?

Atkins' script is a stark fable that draws together the through-lines of "The Mill" tetralogy, and brings the story to an unexpected conclusion.  Dark and poignant, "Ash" is about confronting the sins of our ancestors, and the struggle to find silvers of hope in the very darkest of corners.
