Scripted for Schools [Video]

Scripted For Schools is a special initiative of Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC). The aim of this project is to speak to the relevancy of the arts, increase public/school access to Canadian plays, and demonstrate how plays/scripts/dramatic role play can be used as a creative and impactful learning device.

Theatre and other forms of art have a great impact on youth and can be used to develop literacy skills, communication skills and allow students to explore topics about social issues in a non-traditional way. Theatre, especially that which the student can relate, gives the learner a voice, and allows for creative forms of expression.

The video below includes testimonials on the impact of theatre, scripts and dramatic art among youth. To learn more about this initiative, email kadon@playwrightsguild.ca OR visit www.playwrightsguild.ca.

Special thanks to Jim Giles (Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario), Hugh Neilson (Young People's Theatre), Kristin Rodgerson (Theatre Direct), Andrew Lamb (Roseneath Theatre), Thomas Morgan Jones, the staff of Young People's Theatre, and all the kids who shared their enthusiasm for theatre.

Phase two of the Scripted for Schools Initiative will be a three-part workshop.

In spring 2012, PGC will create a new resource of plays suited for school productions along with other relevant information.
