Synopsis: 

The true story of Ezekiel Hart, the first Jew elected to public office in the British Empire in 1807. When a seat becomes vacant in the House of Assembly of Lower Canada, both the French (personified by the newspaper editor Pierre-Stanislas B├ędard) and the English (personified by the colonial governor, Sir James Craig) must decide whether to support Hart's candidacy.
