Carol Bolt Award for Playwrights

The Carol Bolt Award for Playwrights is given annually to a member of PGC who has premiered an original play within the past year.

A juried panel selects the winner from a number of submitted plays. The winner of the Carol Bolt Award for Playwrights receives $3,000 and the opportunity to be published.

The deadline for submission is at the end of June and the award is presented in September. 2012 Guidelines and application form.

Past recipients: Kent Stetson, Daniel Goldfarb, Florence Gibson, Mieko Ouchi, John Mighton, Stephen Massicotte, Colleen Murphy, Vern Thiessen, Michael Nathanson and Anusree Roy. 

Funding for the award is generously sponsored by the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT), Playwrights Canada Press and Playwrights Guild of Canada. 

Post-Secondary Playwriting Competition

PGC's Post-Secondary Playwriting Competition is a free, annual competition open to all full-time post-secondary students across Canada.

The first place winner of this competition is awarded $1,000 and $750 is given to the second place winner.

Honorary Membership

Honorary members may not be a playwright. An individual or organization is awarded for their contribution to Canadian playwrights and must be nominated by PGC members and approved by the National Council.

Past recipients: Angela Rebeiro, Joan Chalmers, Albert-Reiner Glaap, Toyoshi Yoshihara, Virginia Roncetti, Edmonton Fringe Festival.

Lifetime Membership

To be honoured as a Lifetime Member, a playwright must be nominated by members and approved by the National Council. Criteria include recognition for a body of work, and/or service to Playwrights Guild of Canada and the theatre community. Membership dues are waived.

All current members of Playwrights Guild of Canada are welcome to forward nominations for Lifetime Membership.

A call will be placed in CanScene in January of each year with a nomination deadline of February 29th. The National Council will vote at their  meeting. Click here for 2012's Nomination Form

Bra D'Or Award

Every year, the Women's Caucus recognizes an individual for thier efforts in supporting and promoting the work of Canadian women playwrights.

Past recipients: Brian Quirt, Hope McIntyre, Katrina Dunn, Eric Coates, Andy McKim and Philip Akin.

Best New Comedy

Granted to a member of PGC who has written a new Comedy. This award is worth $5000.
